Advancing Idea Management Systems with Topic Modeling: Radical Innovation Patterns in Student-Driven Industry Cases

Published in the IEEE Xplore Library

Innovation has become a crucial skill for students and necessary component for businesses to survive in the modern world. Structured approaches to idea generation and classification are becoming ever important, and understanding the results of those approaches is necessary to improve innovation strategies at the organizational scale. Building on years of past work at Aarhus University, this paper explored how topic modeling could be used to analyze patterns of innovation among engineering students tasked with brainstorming solutions to real-world industry challenges. Using traditional natural language processing approaches and new language models, I contributed technical expertise to analyze student projects and understand patterns of innovation.

I virtually presented this paper at the 3rd Cognitive Models and Artificial Intelligence Conference in June 2025.
